영어공부 혼자하기 - 뜻은 알지만, 막상 실전에서 쉽게 쓰지 못하는 표현 3개! (brilliant, when it comes to, as ~ as 등)(feat. "구슬쌤강의")

 

학교에서 배운 brilliant, when it comes to, as~as 평소 쉽게 쓰시나요?

 

오늘의 영어공부 혼자하기에서는 예전에 분명히 학교에서 배워서 뜻은 알지만, 막상 실전에서 쉽게 쓰지 못하는 표현 3개에 대해 포스팅하려고 해요.

 

1. brilliant : 멋진, 훌륭한

2. when it comes to : ~ 에 있어서/관해서/대해서

3. as ~ as : "~ 만큼 ~ 한"

 

1. brilliant: 멋진, 훌륭한* 캠브릿지 사전: extremely intelligent or skilled /very good. 

예문)

- Have a brilliant Christmas. 멋진 크리스마스 보내세요.

- Just have a brilliant Christmas, and all of you give yourselves a pat on the back. 모두 멋진 크리스마스 보내시고 스스로를 칭찬해 주세요!

- That is a brilliant idea. 

- The work you did for us was brilliant. 

- It's a completely brilliant plan. 

- I look at these brilliant young woman, and words fail me. 이렇게 훌륭한 젊은 여성들을 보니 뭐라고 표현해야 될지 모르겠네요.  

 

*팁) 고마울 때 혹은 정말 미안할 때 쓰이는 표현 : 

- Words can't express how grateful I am. 

- Words can't express my gratitude. 말로 표현할 수 없을 정도로 감사드려요. 

- Words can't possibly express how grateful I am.

* possibly: (부정문) 도저히

- Words can't (강조할 때는 possibly 사용해보자) express how sorry I am. 

 

** 팁) novel idea: (이전에 볼 수 없던) 참신한, 새로운 아이디어

 * 캠브릿지 사전 novel: new and original, not like anything seen before. 

- 예문) You know what? I got a novel idea.  

 

2.  When it comes to: ~ 에 있어서/관해서/대해서는

예문)

- She's the best when it comes to this. 

*팁) She's top-notch/best when it comes to ~ 에서는 일류야.

 

- Anyway, suffice it to say, QuickBooks is the best when it comes to managing your business finances. 

*팁) suffice it to say: (할 수 있는 말은 많지만) 일단 ~ 까지만 말하면

 

- He has a sixth sense when it comes to hesitation. 주저하면 귀신같이 알아내요.

*팁) Collins 사전: If you say that someone has a sixth sense, you mean that they seem to have a natural ability to know about things before other people, or to know things that other people do not know.

예문) 

- I have a sixth sense, like I know what you're about to say. 

- He has a sixth sense when it comes to lies. 

 

3. as ~ as: "~ 만큼 ~ 한"

- 평소 as ~ as 쉽게 쓰는 법(as lone as 아님) : not as 형용사 as it looks으로 익숙해지자. 

 

예문)

- It's not as easy as it looks. 보는 것 만큼 이게 쉬운 게 아니야. 

- It's not as easy as it sounds. 말처럼 쉬운 게 아니야. 

- It's not as hard as it looks. 자칫 어려워 보일 수도 있지만, 그렇게까지 어려운 건 아니야. 

* 팁) 유사 표현:  It's not that hard.

- It's not as bad as it looks. 상황이 보이는 것만큼 그렇게 나쁘지 않아.

- It's not as complicated as it looks.  

- But it's not as bad as it looks, once you get used to the system. 

- Trust me, it does not taste as good as it looks.
