1.  off the top of my head: 지금 떠오르는 생각으로는@ 롱맨 사전: you say it immediately, without thinking carefully about it or checking the facts(곰곰이 생각해보거나 사실을 확인하지 않고 바로 답할 때)- 지금 당장은 답이 생각/기억나지 않을 때, 정확히 모르는 수치, 정보, 의견 등을 상대가 물어볼 때 사용 가능. *팁) ballpark:  어림잡은 숫자/수치. 

예문)

- I don't know off the top of my head. 지금 당장은 생각이 안 나는데/잘 모르겠어. 

- (지금 당장은 생각나지 않으니 나중에 알려주겠다고 할 때)

I don't know off the top of my head, but we can certainly get these numbers for you. 

 

- (정확한 수치는 모르지만, 어림잡아 얘기해 줄 때)

I don't know the numbers right off the top of my head, but they're really quite high. I'm talking 35%, 40%.

I don't know. I can't think of any just off the top of my head. 

 

- It's just an idea off the top of my head. 그냥 갑자기 든 생각인데. 

 

- (완전 즉흥적으로 생각한 거라 별로일지도 모르지만...)

3. on the line: 위태로운. * 캠브릿지 사전: to be at risk.- 주로 "career/job/reputation" is on the line로 쓰임. 

예문)

- My whole career is on the line here. 

- Our reputation is on the line. 우리의 명성/평판이 위태로워. 

 

* 팁) butt, ass. 에도 사용(슬랭이라 사용할 때 주의하세요!)

- (one's) butt/ass is on the line. 

@ Freedictionary.com: rude slang(무례한 슬랭). One's reputation, livelihood, or well-being is at stake. 

예문) My ass is on the line. so this presentation has to go well. 

예문) That's why you've been so freaked out, cause your butt is on the line. 그래서 그렇게 어쩔 줄 몰라했군요. 당신 일이 달린 문제니까요. 

예문) You got another shot here. Don't blow it. My ass is on the line here, too. 다시 한번 기회가 생긴 거니 날리지 마. 내 목도 걸린 일이란 말이야. 

 

** 팁) 하지만, 정말 친한 동료나 친구에게 아래와 같이 사용 가능해요~

4.  Let me get this straight. : 방금 하신 말씀을 다시 정리해볼게요. - "그러니깐 네 말은 이거라는거지?"- 순수히 확인차 물어볼 때 사용.- 상대가 말하는 게 믿기지 않거나, 믿고 싶지 않기에 되물을 때도 사용 

 

예문)

- Let me get this straight. You lost all of it? 네 말을 정리해볼게. 그러니깐 다 잃어버렸다는 거지? 

- Let me get this straight, this is diet food? Yes!  그러니깐 네 말은 이게 다이어트 음식이라는 거지? 네!

- Let me get this straight, You're saying ~

- He said, "Let me get this straight. I'm an airline pilot with a good living. The budget the Congress proposes wants to give me a tax cut." I said "Yeah, that's it" 그러니깐 말씀하신 걸 정리해보면 전 여유롭게 사는 파일럿인데, 국회에선 저 같은 사람을 감세해주신다고 제안하는 거죠? 네, 맞아요.
